Information for shortlisted candidates for vacancy: Manager: Human Resources

Congratulations on being selected to the interview stage of our recruitment process. Please watch the three short YouTube video clips below. Each of the videos contain perspectives and perceptions of the role that HR / People Management is supposed to play or not supposed to play.

You don’t have to study the clips. It is merely provided to stimulate your own views on the role of the Human Resource Manager within the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. The panel will ask your opinion on some of the perspectives that you hold and those that have been shared in the video clips.

This will be dealt with as a non-scoring introductory conversation to gain a glimpse of who you are as an HR Specialist and a potential Manager in the team. This will also form the backdrop against which the rest of the interview will be conducted.

Questions to ponder

  • Which views resonate most with you? Why?
  • What if the current HR Practices have not transformed or evolved?
  • Is compliance in HR overrated and overstated? Have we inadvertently destroyed the “human” part of the job?
  • Should HR be an advocate for the employee or the business? (Employee Champion versus Business Partner?)

Final note

  • We strongly advise that you watch the video clips before the interview.
  • You are not required to do a PowerPoint presentation or write a review or write a report.
  • The panel merely wants to engage with you for approximately 5-10 minutes on your perspectives before we start the more structured part of the interview. Don’t overthink it.
  • We wish you all the best and we are keen to meet with you.
