1. At this stage, we expect full width "safe access" to be reinstated by the end of the 2026 calendar year. This will be upon the completion of the permanent works to restore the road condition to the same, or similar, state as before the 2022/2023 original flood damage. The roadway itself was reopened on 10 July 2026 under stop/go control and from sunrise to sunset to allow for an acceptable degree of safety for road users and road construction teams continued efforts.
2. (a)(i) R328 route between Oudtshoorn and Cango Caves (i.e. TR75/2 from km 16 to km 24 approximately will be subjected to a rockslope protection works estimated at R60m. This estimate is subject to change based on weekly safety assessments related to the nature of the terrain.

(a)(ii) Human Resource allocation is determined by the contractor.

2.      (b) Each and every location across the road network is subjected to safety conditions as per the industry technical standards as published by the Roads Coordinating Body under the National Department of Transport. It is therefore incorrect to try to compare one scenario to another as it depends on a wide range of engineering parameters specific to each site/location. Such engineering parameters range from vehicle traffic to the strategic socio-economic importance of routes as well as technical parameters related to risk to public use due to fall height, type of material and existing road geometry. This is done on site specific level and is then assessed on an overall network level to ensure proper allocation under major fiscal and funding constraints.

         (c) The allocations are contract related and the criteria vary from situation to situation.
