- (a) how many of these murder cases have resulted in suspects being (i) arrested and (ii) referred to court and (b) how many have resulted in successful convictions;
- how many gang-related murder cases on the Cape Flats remain unsolved to date?
(1) (a) Delft SAPS: 32 members (all detectives) with an average of 30 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(b) Bishop Lavis SAPS: 4 members (dedicated capacity) with an average of 76 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(c) Manenberg SAPS: 4 members (dedicated capacity) with an average of 71 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(d) Philippi SAPS (Hanover Park): 8 members (dedicated capacity) with an average of 92 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(e) Nyanga SAPS: 24 members (dedicated capacity) with an average of 32 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(f) Philippi East SAPS: 10 members (all detectives) with an average of 43 dockets per Investigating Officer.
(2) For contextual purposes, the "Cape Flats" encompasses the following SAPS policing precincts: Athlone, Belhar, Bishop Lavis, Delft, Elsies River, Grassy Park, Gugulethu, Harare, Khayelitsha, Kleinvlei, Langa, Lansdowne, Lentegeur, Lingelethu-West, Macassar, Makhaza, Manenberg, Mfuleni, Mitchells Plain, Nyanga, Philippi, Philippi East, Samora Machel, Steenberg, and Strandfontein.
(a) 794 gang-related murders (victims) and 714 cases were recorded from January to December 2025.
(b) The requested period (January 2026 to date) spans the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year and the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, both within the current reporting cycle. As these quarterly statistics have not yet been officially disseminated by the Minister of Police, they cannot be shared at this time.
(3) (a) (i) 213 suspects were arrested and charged in 140 cases.
(ii) 140 cases were referred to court.
(b) 2 cases with successful conviction.
(4) 574 remain unsolved.
