With regard to the Cape Care Fund that was established to mobilise additional resources, strengthen the sustainability of NGOs and ensure the continued delivery of essential social services to vulnerable communities in the Western Cape:

Answer Body: 

(a)  What is the current status of the fund:

The Cape Care Fund is active and is focused on building partnerships that strengthen its reach and support practical initiatives, including the delivery of essential resources to NPOs across the Western Cape. Although still in its early growth phase, it is starting to gain momentum through collaborations with key stakeholders and growing visibility features..

Some of its recent activities include:

•      A partnership with the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), with CCF videos currently being featured at Cape Town International Airport

•      Features in various publications promoting the fund, including This is Cape Town (Volume 6, April 2026, pages 26 to 27) and the upcoming Winter edition of South Magazine, as well as promotional engagements at the KKNK festival and the recent international Investment Summit held at the CTICC.

•      A partnership with the Cape Town Science Centre, which will see just under R 11 million being invested into the Fund, along with internship opportunities for youth coming out of the Department’s foster care programme

•      Various projects underway, including delivery of wheelchairs, sanitary products and an inclusive playground construction project valued at just under R 300 000.

(b)  (i) what total amount of funding has been raised and disbursed to date

To date, the Cape Care Fund has raised a total of R877 721.55, consisting of:

•      R 469 367.36 in cash donations

•      R 408 354.19 in in-kind donations

A total of R 474 451.01 has been disbursed to date. In addition:

•      R 273 583.42 has been committed towards the inclusive playground project

•      A further R 26 685.75 has been committed for 275 blankets to support emergency relief efforts related to the May 2026 storms.

(ii) how many NGOs benefitted from this fund?

To date, 13 organisations have benefitted from the Fund. In some instances, multiple donors have contributed towards a single initiative, such as the inclusive playground project..

The number of beneficiary organisations is expected to increase further through the distribution of blanket donations
