Whether the Western Cape Government has any trade, investment or procurement relations linked to entities operating in or with Israel; if so, (a) what is the nature and (b) value of these relations?
Answer Body:
- The Western Cape Government has no formal trade or investment related twinning arrangements / relations with Israel, which includes Wesgro, the official Tourism, Trade, and Investment promotion agency of the province. There is currently no legislative or regulatory requirement obligating the department to investigate or verify whether a service provider has any direct or indirect associations or business dealings with entities linked to the State of Israel. If we have service providers with a link to Israel, the department has no legal basis to exclude such businesses from our procurement processes.
b. We are therefore not able to determine a value if it exists.
