With regard to the decision by the Western Cape Government on 1 March 2022 to illuminate the Western Cape Provincial Parliament Building in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, while not doing the same for the Palestinian flag:
What criteria or policy guidelines inform decisions to symbolically illuminate government buildings in relation to international conflicts or causes?
Answer Body:
As the Premier, I am not aware of any decision by the Western Cape Government to illuminate the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) building in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
I have also been informed that the Western Cape Government has no policy regarding the illumination of government buildings.
