- Whether she has received formal briefings from South African Police Service regarding Operation Prosper and its deployment in Cape Town; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- what assessment has her Department made of the impact of Operation Prosper on the level of violent crime and drug-related crime in Cape Town since its commencement?
Answer Body:
(1) Minister Anroux Marais and Acting HOD Richard Bosman had a meeting with the provincial SAPS management for an update on Operation Prosper on 21 April 2026.
(2) The Department is monitoring the homicide data provided by the Provincial Forensic Pathology Department on a weekly basis. In the period since deployment (29 March to 9 May 2026) there has been a slight increase in homicide in the 17 areas where the SANDF is deployed, although there have been decreases in 10 of the deployment areas. It should be noted that the homicide statistics are used as proxy indicators. The Department does not have access to statistics on drug related crime until the quarterly crime statistics are released by SAPS.
