What is the extent of her Department’s oversight role over the South African National Defence Force when members are deployed in the province?
Answer Body:
The Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety derive her oversight over the police from Section 206 of the Constitution. The province has no oversight authority in respect of the South African National Defence Force. However, the Minister’s may exercise her powers over the South African Police Service and the municipal police when they are deployed together with SANDF.
