Whether the Department is aware of the intention to evict the residents of an informal settlement in Knoflokskraal, near Grabouw, comprising approximately 4 000 structures and an estimated population of up to 20 000 people; if so, what measures is his Depart-ment taking to prevent the eviction and/or to ensure that the affected residents are provided with adequate alternative accommodation and support?
The property in question belongs to the national government, with the Department of Public Works being the custodian. The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure is aware that on 7 April 2026, the responsible National Minister announced a containment intervention. The details of this intervention can be obtained from the office of the National Minister concerned.
