With regard to the Learner Transport Programme in the province:
(1) (a) How many schools were served by this programme during the 2025 academic year, (b) what is the breakdown of the schools referred to in (a) per school quintile, (c) how many learners benefitted from this programme and (d) what was the total amount spent on learner transport during the 2025 academic year;
(2) (a) how many schools are currently using the Learner Transport Programme, (b) what is the breakdown of the schools referred to in (a) above per school quintile, (c) how many learners are currently benefiting from the Learner Transport Programme and (d) what total amount has been budgeted for learner transport for the 2026 academic year?

Answer Body: 

My department has informed me of the following:
(1) (a) As at the end of the 2025 school year, 508 schools were authorised on the Learner Transport Scheme (LTS).
(b) Quintile 1: 204
Quintile 2: 70
Quintile 3: 87
Quintile 4: 83
Quintile 5: 51
School of Skills: 13
(c) As at the end of the 2025 school year, 71 406 learners were authorised to make use of LTS.
(d) The budget for Learner Transport is allocated per financial year and not per academic year. Budget for 2025/26: R674 017 000

(2) (a) New LTS applications are still in progress so the data is not finalised.
