With regard to school nutrition programmes in public ordinary schools in the province:
(1) (a) How many schools benefited from school feeding schemes during the 2025 academic year, (b) what is the breakdown of the schools referred to in (a) above per school quintile, (c) what was the total amount spent on school nutrition programmes during the 2025 academic year and (d) how many learners benefited from these programmes during the 2025 academic year;
(2) (a) how many schools are participating in school nutrition programmes in the 2026 academic year, (b) what is the breakdown of the schools referred to in (a) above per school quintile, (c) what total amount has been budgeted for school nutrition programmes for 2026 and (d) how many learners are expected to benefit from these programmes in 2026?

My department has informed me of the following:
(1) (a) 1 055 schools
(b) Quintile 1-3: 660
Quintile 4-5: 354 (281 - No Fee and 71 - Fee charging)
Special Schools: 55
(c) The budget for school nutrition is allocated per financial year and not per academic year. Budget for 2025/26: R622 million
(d) 540 406
(2) (a) Data on the additional learners benefitting in 2026 is not yet finalised.
