The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Infrastructure will be discussing important issues affecting backyard dwellers in the George region.

 

The purpose of the public engagement is to discuss the following:

 

·  Living conditions and support programmes;

·  Access to safe electricity;

·  Indigent status assessment;

·  Municipal plans affecting backyard dwellings; and

·  Strategies to improve safety, dignity and housing opportunities.

 

Your voice matters. Come and share your experiences, concerns and ideas. Stakeholders, interested persons and organisations are welcome to submit written submissions. These submissions must reach the Standing Committee by no later than Friday 20 February 2026 at 09:00. Submissions must include full contact details (name, email address and contact numbers).

 

Oral submissions can be made during the public engagement session.

 

The public engagement is arranged as follows:
