Education
Whether his Department is giving teachers termly contracts; if not, why not; if so,
(a) what are the relevant details, (b) what is the total number of these contracts
in the current year, (c) what is the salary range and (d) what is the duration of
the contracts?
My department has informed me of the following:
Yes.
(a) All classes must have a teacher and appointments are made against the
annual educator establishment issued to schools.
The School Governing Body (SGB) is responsible for nominating a suitably
qualified educator to ensure that the number of posts on the educator
establishment for a school is filled, with either permanently appointed
educators or contract educators, in order to ensure continuous teaching
for all classes. The duration of contracts vary. For example, there can only
be a contract appointment against an ad hoc post where an existing
educator is acting in a promotion school management post. A post level
one educator is therefore appointed on contract.
(b) As of 30 November 2025, there are 45 educators who have been
appointed for one term against vacant substantive post level 1 educator
posts.
(c) The salary of educators is prescribed by the provisions of the Personnel
Administration Measures for Educators, which is based on qualification level
and experience.
(d) The duration is for full calendar months, as per the school term.
