In respect of the disciplinary action taken by her Department against a certain person whose name has been furnished to her Department for the purpose of her reply:

  1.  

1. ​​What were the charges against this person;

2. whether her Department investigated the allegations raised against some of this person’s colleagues; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer Body: 

While I do not have personal knowledge of this case as it relates to a matter from 6 years ago (2019), I am informed that

(1) The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness confirms that the employee was charged with negligence. The charge related to the authorisation of a payment without verifying the receipt of 200 mattresses, which constitutes a failure to follow required financial control measures. The Department has confirmed that the mattresses paid for were received.

(2) The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is not aware of any allegations made against the employee’s colleagues. The matter that was brought to the employer’s attention was fully investigated, and disciplinary action was taken against the employee concerned. Following the disciplinary process, the employee received a sanction of a written warning.
