With regard to the Department’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Programme:
What are the details of the GBV Programme in terms of the total (a) budget allocation for the programme and (b) number of GBV ambassadors appointed in the province?
Answer Body:
- The Victim Empowerment Programme has a transfer funding budget of R73 302 000. The Programme funds 26 shelters in the province that provide safe accommodation for women and children affected by Gender Based Violence. The shelter service also includes therapeutic support of a social worker and access to skills development courses to become economically independent. Furthermore, the Programme funds 21 social service organisations that provide services at critical entry points like the Thuthuzela Care Centres, courts and at SAPS victim friendly rooms.
- The number of GBV ambassadors appointed is currently 613 across the province.
