Regarding the SWIMS application:

  1. (a) What is the total number of users of the application and

(b) what tangible efficiency is seen with the use of the SWIMS application;

  1. whether the rollout of the application has been extended to other departments; if so, what has the outcome been;

(b) Reports automatically generated from the systems which was previously manually captured on an excel spreadsheet:

  • Central Case Work register for each social worker which reflects active cases and interventions
  • Generic intervention processes reflecting the following:
  • Case work: number of beneficiaries of DSD services per life stage, race and gender and disabilities
  • Number of Beneficiaries per primary problem code i.e. child neglect, child in conflict with the law, etc.
  • Number of Interventions by social service professionals, i.e. individual counselling, home visits, etc.
  • Number of groupwork i.e. parenting skills, diversion programme, behaviour modification, etc.
  • Number of community work, i.e. child protection awareness, disability aware, etc.
  • Social work supervision related activities

  1. Rollout has been extended to the Western Cape Education Department that will go live on the 1st of October with the referral of cases to DSD for statutory interventions. We are currently busy with engagements with Department of Health and Wellness in terms of the rollout.

Two Designated Child Protection Organisations have also been trained on the system and their social workers are utilising it, with another organisation to also be trained soon.

  1. (a) Improvement in compliance with social work norms and standards, information immediately available.

(b)(i) All social service professionals will utilise the system and administrative tasks electronically.

(ii) Generic interventions and all mandatory forms/interventions, enhancements, the app has the ability to onboard all new mandatory forms that requires compliance from the department.  Onboarding of all social workers in the province including NGOs.
