Infrastructure
Recent reports have highlighted allegations of corruption and maladministration in the
Independent Development Trust (IDT), and considering the IDT’s role as a key implementing
agent for infrastructure projects across the country, including the Western Cape:
- (a) What specific IDT projects are currently being implemented in the province and (b) what is their current status;
- whether any of these projects have been delayed, disrupted or otherwise negatively impacted due to allegations or findings of corruption at the IDT; if so, what are detailed examples of this;
- what measures is his Department taking to ensure that provincial infrastructure delivery is not compromised by issues at implementing agencies, such as the IDT;
- whether there are any ongoing investigations involving IDT projects in the province; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) how is the Department cooperating with the relevant authorities to safeguard public funds and service delivery;
- what steps is his Department taking to prevent future disruptions to critical infra-structure projects caused by external implementing agencies facing corruption challenges?
No component of the Department of Infrastructure makes use of the services of the Independent Development Trust as an implementing agent.
Question 10 (1 to 5) therefore falls away.
