- (a) What is the number of libraries in Kraaifontein townships, particularly in (i) Wallacedene and (ii) Bloekombos, (b) what is the number of people, particularly school-going children, in need of library services in (i) Wallacedene and (ii) Bloekombos and (c) what is the total distance between these townships and the nearest library;
- whether his Department has any plans to build a library in Wallacedene and/or Bloe-kombos during the current MTEF period; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
(a) There are 3 public libraries in Kraaifontein townships
(i) The are 0 libraries in Wallacedene
(ii) There are 0 libraries in Bloekombos
(b) The total number of people in Wallacedene and Bloekombos is not known to the Department. However, with the assistance of the Western Cape Education Department we have obtained the number of school going children in Wallacedene and Bloekombos namely 9028 and 6288 respectively.
(c) The distance between Kraaifontein Library to Wallacedene is 3.9 km to and from.
The distance between Kraaifontein Library to Bloekombos is 5.8 km to and from.
The distance between Eikendal Library to Bloekombos is 3.5 km to and from.
The distance between Eikendal Library to Wallacedene is 1.7 km to and from.
The distance between Scottsdene Library to Wallacedene is 1.7 km to and from.
The distance between Scottsdene Library to Bloekombos is 5.1 km to and from.
(2) There are no new libraries planned for Wallacedene or Bloekombos during the current MTEF. All school going children have reasonable access to libraries in the area which is within the norms and standards for the building of new libraries.
