(a) What is the total number of reported incidents involving attacks on social workers in the last year, (b)(i) of these incidents, how many are currently under investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and (ii) what are the details of these attacks classified as a priority crime by the SAPS, (c) in which locations or regions did these attacks occur and (d) how many social workers have resigned as a result of being attacked?

Answer Body: 
  1. A total of 54 incidents were reported for the period 1 April 2024 to date.
  2. (i) All 54 incidents were reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for investigation, (ii) These statistics include vehicle hijackings and attempted hijackings.
