Question Number:

Question Body:

How many parents have (a) accepted placement for their children at allocated schools and (b) not accepted placement for their children at allocated schools as at the latest date for which information in available?

Answer Body:

It is important to remember that the online system does not “allocate” children to schools. Parents apply to specific schools using the online admissions system, and the schools determine whether to accept their application and offer a place to the parents. Parents then choose to accept or decline these offers.
As of 12 August 2025, the number of Grade R, 1 or 8 learners whose parents confirmed offers on their own on the online system is 71 472. All remaining confirmed offers to parents were either confirmed by parents with the assistance of officials or school staff, or autoconfirmed to their top choice of school where their application was successful if they had not confirmed this by 17 June 2025.
Districts will work with any parents who do not have a space over the coming weeks to find a suitable alternative offer.
