Question Body:

With reference to his reply to question 6 of 4 April 2025:

(1)(a)(i) What was the actual volume of waste tyres processed at each of the listed facilities in the 2024/25 financial year and (ii) what percentage of their theoretical capacity does this represent, (b) (i) how many tonnes of tyres remain in temporary storage in the province’s existing depots, and (ii) what is the monthly intake versus dispatch rate at each depot, (c)(i) what risks, if any, have been identified by his Department relating to stockpiling of waste tyres, including fire hazards or illegal dumping, and (ii) what actions have been taken in response, (d) what is his Department’s role in monitoring the environmental compliance of processors and recyclers and (e) what are the primary end uses of waste tyres once processed in the province?

(1)(a)(i) What was the actual volume of waste tyres processed at each of the listed facilities in the 2024/25 financial year and

(ii) what percentage of their theoretical capacity does this represent,

Answer Body:

Please refer to the table below. It reflects the actual volumes processed at each facility and the utilisation of available processing capacity for the 2024/25 financial year.

Note on recyclers ('secondary industry'):
These are small-scale, decentralised users who collectively account for less than 5% of tyre offtake in the Western Cape. While they do not drive bulk demand, they support local employment, small enterprise development, and social infrastructure initiatives:

  • Tyres are supplied to them on an as-needed or once-off basis.
  • As a result, theoretical capacity is not defined or applicable for these users.

No.
