With regard to sport infrastructure:

  1. Whether he or his Department has a database of municipal infrastructure aimed at sport and recreation; if so,
  2. whether the database identifies municipal infrastructure that is in need of maintenance; if so, (a) which projects are being assisted by the Province and (b) what is form of assistance is provided for each project?
Answer Body: 
  1. The Department does not have a database of municipal infrastructure. The responsibility for the provision, maintenance, and upgrading of sport and recreation facilities lies with municipalities in accordance with Schedule 5, Part B of the Constitution. However, the Department maintains a working database of applications (For Voted Funds) submitted by municipalities seeking support for sport infrastructure development or refurbishment. This database is updated annually.

In addition, the department also maintains a working database of the DSAC ring-fenced allocation Projects that are funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).

  1. No, the DCAS database does not identify municipal infrastructure that requires maintenance, as this falls within the municipality’s mandate.
    1. Not applicable as the Department do not support municipalities with the maintenance of sport facilities.
    2. Not applicable.
