Whether his Department has received the information requested from the South African Waste Information System; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
During this period, the South African Waste Information System (SAWIS) underwent an upgrade of the system and this entailed the migration of all their data from the old platform to the new platform.
A request for the data to the Department: Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) was sent via email on 3 March 2025, relating to Parliamentary question 25. A link to the data was sent to the Department but was not accessible due to the large size of the file (data) and therefore the Department was unable to analyse the data.
Further to this, on 6 March 2025, the DFFE informed the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) of the SAWIC System Deployment and the DFFE encountered some delays during the data migration due to the SITA shutting down the SAWIS system and the challenges of processing the required data into the correct fields. The DFFE indicated that the SAWIS would undergo further downtime to ensure that all quality assurance was completed before going live.
Due to the vast amount of data that needs to be analysed, the Department will consult with the DFFE to establish when they can provide the requested information.
