Infrastructure
With regard to road infrastructure that was damaged by storms that hit the province in 2024:
- What are the details of the roads that have been affected in (i) Philippi, (ii) Philippi East and (iii) Old Crossroads and (b)(i) which of the roads have been identified for repair and (ii) what are the timelines?
- It should be noted that all streets in the areas mentioned, including Stock Road MR121,
Lansdowne Road MR122, and New Eisleben Road MR123, fall under the City as the road authority with DOI as the approving authority for mainly capital works.
These roads are also currently included in the approved joint-planning process to conclude future ownership responsibilities in response to increased urbanization over the years. In the interim, the roles are still split between the subject road authorities. The City contact person is: Mr Hilton Scholtz, Director: RIM Road Infrastructure Management, Urban Mobility Directorate. Tel: 021 444 7619 Email: hilton.scholtz@capetown.gov.za
(b)(i) It can be confirmed also that our District Roads Office (DRE Paarl), has no knowledge of any of the proclaimed roads mentioned that has had extensive flood damage not already rectified.
(b)(ii) None of the DOI Maintenance Contract (i.e. C1212.01) includes any interventions that are still outstanding.
