Since the deployment of the first LEAP officers in 2020:
(a) How many firearms have been confiscated by LEAP officers, (b) how many arrests have LEAP officers participated in and (c) what is the approximate total value of the illegal drugs confiscated by LEAP officers?
14. (a) Since inception of the LEAP programme until the latest reporting period of 16 February, 745 firearms (including Zip guns) have been confiscated by LEAP.
(b) LEAP has made 40 065 arrests since inception of the project up until the latest reporting period of 16 February 2025.
(c) Multiple drugs have been confiscated during LEAP operations, ranging from mandrax, tik, dagga, cocaine, heroin, unga, ecstasy and more. The estimated value of the various drugs that have been confiscated between the period of 1 January 2021 – 16 February 2025 amounts to around R10 million.
