Hon Wessels.
With regard to the joint media release relating to the Tafelberg site in Sea Point issued by him on 30 January:
(a) What efforts have been made to engage with stakeholders and the civil society regarding the investigation into using the site for affordable housing, (b) what further engagements with stakeholders are planned, (c) what is the timeline of events regarding the investigation for the possible uses of the site and (d) what uses are being explored for the site?
- The Department released a call for interested and affected parties to register in an effort to generate a database to facilitate communication and engagement on the project.
On 30 January a joint media statement was released announcing the Western Cape Government’s intended future development plans and usage of this property.
- The next steps in the planned stakeholder engagement process is an open house which will be followed by focused group sessions. Then the legislated public participation processes will take place as informed by the National Heritage Resources Act 25 of 1999 and City of Cape Town’s Municipal Planning By Law 2015 (as amended).
- The timeline of events for the investigation of the possible uses will be informed by the stakeholder engagements referred to in (b) as well as the detailed studies and impacts assessments. It is expected that the determination of possible land uses with conceptual development scenarios will be presented to the interested and affected parties within the second quarter of this year.
Land uses being investigated will include a residentially led mixed-use development that includes affordable housing.
