Whether a new provincial hospital is planned for Mossel Bay; if not, why not; if so, (a) where will it be erected, (b) (i) has the land been or will it be purchased and (ii) for how much, (c) when will the hospital be fully operational, (d) how many beds will be allocated to each service aspect and (e) which services will be rendered by such hospital and (f) for which geographical area?

Answer Body: 

Yes, a new Mossel Bay Hospital is being planned, which will replace the current Mossel Bay Hospital.

(a)The replacement facility will be erected on a portion of Erf19201, which is     located in Louis Fourie Road, Mossel Bay.

(b) (i) Transport and Public Works has confirmed that site acquisition is currently underway.

(ii)  R8,892,000

(c) This is dependent on the availability of funding.

  1. Estimated total number of beds is 150.
  2. Comprehensive district health services, comprising:
  • General surgery;
  • General medicine;
  • Paediatrics;
  • Obstetrics and gynaecology;
  • Emergency Medicine;
  • Radiology; and
  • Anaesthetics

Mossel Bay municipal area.
