How many learners are still not placed at schools in the province at the latest date for which information is available?

4. There are no unplaced learners in 6 out of the 8 districts at this stage.
Only two (2) districts have reported unplaced learners as at 25 May 2015:
- Metropole North Education District: 101 unplaced learners
- Metropole East Education District: 143 unplaced learners
However, many of these learners were new arrivals and include new cases where parents have re-located in 2nd term 2015.
In the Metro East Education District, mobile classrooms were delivered for construction on 11th May to accommodate these learners.
In the Metro North Education District, lack of available land in the Delft and Mfuleni areas continue to be a challenge. The WCED has applied for land for lease and is awaiting approval from the City Council. This will alleviate some of the pressure in these areas, however the District continues to place learners every day.
The WCED will continue to accommodate new learners as they migrate and relocate. A small percentage of the population is always on the move and we plan for this.
District officals are in the process of resolving the remaining unplaced learners and it is expected that these cases will be resolved soon.
