  1. Whether indigenous sport games are promoted in the Western Cape; if so, (a) which games are promoted, (b) where and (c) when will the matches be played;

  1. Yes, Indigenous Games are promoted in the Western Cape.

1 (a)    The following games are promoted:

Dibeke, Diketo, Drie Stokkies, Jukskei, IIntonga, Kgati, Kho – Kho,     

Morabaraba and Ncuva

 

1 (b)    Indigenous Games is being promoted at the Farm / Community Centres and in the following areas:

Cape Winelands         –          De Doorns Community Centre,

Zwelethemba Community Centre, Paarl, Bonnievale, Mbekweni and Stellenbosch (Khayamandi)

Central Karoo                         –          Klaarstroom Farm Centre, Leeu –

Gamka Community Centre, Mandlingkosi            Community Centre, Prince Albert and Merweville

Eden                            -           Avontuur Farm Centre, Volmoed Farm

Centre and Kwanonqaba Community Centre, Plettenbergbay (Kranshoek), George (Thembalethu), Oustdhoorn and Zoar

                  Metropole                   -           Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Langa, Clarke

Estate, Mitchell’s Plain (Beacon Valley), Samora Machel and Crossroads

                  Overberg                     -           Zwelihle, Bredasdorp, Swellendam,

Caledon, Struisbaai, Arniston, Napier

                  West Coast                  -           Broodkraal Farm Centre, Redelinghuys

1 (c)     The Indigenous Games is being promoted at the Farm / Community Centres on a regular basis, It is also promoted via coaching clinics in communities, on an adhoc basis. Currently, we are working towards the establishment of a community-based league system.

 

  1. Whether the promotion of these games is sustainable and competitive; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer:

  1. The promotion of these games is sustainable and competitive, hence the reason that we are busy with the establishment of the afore-mentioned league systems.

What also makes it sustainable is the fact that the foundation of the league system, is the regular indigenous games activities that are taking place at the Farm / Community Centres.
