Questions and Replies

The right of Members to put questions to Ministers is an important part of ensuring the executive authority’s accountability to the Provincial Parliament. Questions may be put to Ministers related to their spheres of responsibility. Replies to questions are either given orally in the House or in writing. The replies to oral questions are recorded in Hansard.

The District Six Museum in Cape Town is reportedly facing closure due to financial constraints:

 

  1. Whether she and her Department have any comment on whether the story of District Six – the forced removal of people and the stories of the families – need to be told, preserved and memorialised; if so, what are the relevant details;

On 7 October 2020 the media reported that a Knysna councillor resigned two months after becoming the chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). He cited corruption, non-cooperation from fellow councillors and the municipal administration among the reasons for his resignation. In light of the information above:

 

  1. How many cases are currently before the MPAC at each of the province’s 26 municipalities and at the City of Cape Town;
  2. How many of these cases implicate politicians;
  3. How many of these cases implicate municipal officials; and
  4. What is the value of the irregular, unauthorised or fruitless and wasteful expenditure currently being investigated by each council MPAC?
