The right of Members to put questions to Ministers is an important part of ensuring the executive authority’s accountability to the Provincial Parliament. Questions may be put to Ministers related to their spheres of responsibility. Replies to questions are either given orally in the House or in writing. The replies to oral questions are recorded in Hansard.

With regard to the non-servicing of DNA machines used to process specimens specifically related to gender-based violence (GBV) at the SAPS Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Plattekloof: (1) Whether there has been any changes in the working status of the machines since they were last reported as out of order; if not, why not; if so, what measures are in place to maintain the working status of the machines; (2) (a) what are the details of the contract management that led to the machines not being serviced since 2019, (b) how often should these machines be serviced, (c) how long can these machines be left without being serviced and (d) how many days has it been since they were declared out of order; (3) how many matters related to gender-based violence form part of the DNA backlog in the province, as at the latest date for which information is available; (4) whether there is a time frame available for clearing this backlog; if so, what are the relevant details? |
