The right of Members to put questions to Ministers is an important part of ensuring the executive authority’s accountability to the Provincial Parliament. Questions may be put to Ministers related to their spheres of responsibility. Replies to questions are either given orally in the House or in writing. The replies to oral questions are recorded in Hansard.

With reference to the R408 million committed by the national Minister of Transport in the national budget earlier this year, described as the balance of previous financial commitments made to the taxi industry:

  1. (a) How much of this funding has been allocated or is expected to be allocated to the Western Cape’s minibus taxi (MBT) sector and (b) what is the (i) anticipated time-line and (ii) process for disbursement of these funds in the province;
  2. whether the Western Cape Government has provided financial support directly to the MBT sector in the (a) 2021/22, (b) 2022/23, (c) 2023/24, (d) 2024/25 and (e) 2025/26 financial year; if not, (i) what non-financial support has the Department of Mobility provided to the MBT sector over the same period and (ii) what specific programmes or initiatives were implemented to support the sector’s recovery and development post-COVID-19; if so, what are the relevant details?

On 30 January 2025, the Minister of Infrastructure announced that the Tafelberg School building would be used for the delivery of social services:

  1. What feasibility studies were conducted before his Department requested the use of the Tafelberg School building for uses for social services, (b) when did the studies commence and (c) who conducted the studies, (d)(i) what was the cost of the studies, (ii) when were the studies concluded and (iii) what was the recommended outcome or suggested use of the site, (e) what is the intended use of the school building, (f) will the use be residential or out-patient, (g) who will run or operate the service and (h) what is the foreseen cost to his Department of the operation to provide the delivery of social services at the Tafelberg School site?
