The Standing Committee on Community Safety invites the public to peruse the latest Policing Needs and Priorities Report of the Department of Community Safety and encourage feedback and inputs on community safety concerns. A copy of the report is availabe here .
Public Accounts Committee media briefing
Members of the media are cordially invited to a media briefing session hosted by the Public Accounts Committee taking place on Wednesday, 13 September. Topics to be covered in this briefing include:
• Report of the Auditor-General of South Africa on a performance audit of the use of consultants at selected departments of the Western Cape Provincial Government (January 2014); and
• The discussion on allegation of irregular expenditure at the Western Cape Liquor Authority regarding the refurbishment and furnishing of the Sunbel Building.
Have your say at public hearings on the Western Cape Housing Development Amendment Bill
The Standing Committee on Human Settlements invites stakeholders, interested persons and organisations to
attend public hearings and to make written submissions on the Western Cape Housing Development Amendment Bill [B 2–2017].
The purpose of the amendment bill is to provide for immovable assets to be acquired or disposed of for the purpose of housing development; to disestablish the Western Cape Housing Development Fund established by section 13 of the act; and to provide for matters incidental thereto.
Petitions Committee visits Citrusdal
The Petitions Committee is to conduct an oversight visit to the demolished Alaska Forever Tavern in Riverview, Citrusdal, on Friday, 28 July.
The Petitions Committee received a petition from the Citrusdal Community Police Forum in March 2015. With the local municipalities’ intervention and due process followed, the tavern structure was eventually demolished in June 2017. Members of the Petitions Committee will also meet with the petitioners, Citrusdal Community Police Forum, and Cederberg Municipality.
Knysna fire disaster and Cape storm clean-up briefing
The Standing Committee on Local Government will be briefed by the Department of Local Government on the status on the Knysna fire disaster and the cleaning up efforts after the storm that affected the Cape Peninsula on 7 June 2017. The committee will also be briefed on the Western Cape’s Integrated Fire Management Strategy and, together with the Drought Task Team, on the engagement of municipalities on the state of water resources in the Western Cape.

New Member sworn in
New WCPP Member Tertuis Simmers was sworn-in by Speaker Sharna Fernandez on 12 June. He joins the WCPP as Member, representing the Democratic Alliance, in the vacancy created by the resignation of Member Rodney Lentit. We wish him all the best for his term.
Office of National Police Commissioner to respond
The Standing Committee on Community Safety will host a delegation from the Office of the National Police Commissioner to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on 7 June 2017. The delegation will respond to the committee's report on the impact of police resources following the public participation process facilitated during October 2016.

Public hearings on Plant Bills
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture will conduct a series of public hearings focusing on the Plant Improvement Bill [B 8B–2015] (NCOP) and the Plant Breeders’ Rights Bill [B 11B–2015] (NCOP). These public hearings will be conducted in accordance with the national Constitution and the Constitution of the Western Cape.

Public meetings on EMS attacks
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Community Development will conduct two follow-up stakeholder and public consultation meetings focusing on the attacks on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel in the province.
