SUMMARY OF PARLIAMENTARY ACTIVITIES

 

MONDAY, 8 MARCH

 

Members will be working in their constituencies.

 

TUESDAY, 9 MARCH

 

09:00: The Standing Committee on Local Government will meet virtually to be briefed by the Department of Local Government on its second and third quarterly performance reports (July 2020 - September 2020 and October 2020 - December 2020) and on the status of all Section 106 investigations in accordance with the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, 2000 (Act 32 of 2000) at municipalities in the Western Cape. The committee will also consider and adopt its draft committee report on its oversight visit to Genadendal and draft minutes of 2 February 2021.

09:00: The Parliamentary Oversight Committee will engage the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on its second and third quarterly performance and financial reports for the 2020/2021 financial year (July-December 2020), including feedback on any instructions issued in term of Section 37 (6) and Section 66 (2) of the Financial Management of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, 2009.

WEDNESDAY, 10 MARCH

 

09:00: The Budget Committee will meet virtually to be briefed by Provincial Treasury on the third quarter (2020/21) performance (financial and non-financial) of Western Cape Government departments.

THURSDAY, 11 MARCH

 

09:00: The Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Opportunities and Tourism will meet to deliberate on the way forward for the Western Cape Nineteenth Gambling and Racing Amendment Bill [B 1 - 2020], following the input submitted by the legal advisers assigned to the Bill. There will also be a discussion on the public participation process for the public hearings on the UIF-COVID19 TERS and challenges experienced by citizens in the province.

09:00: The Standing Committee on Education will meet virtually to be briefed by the Western Cape Education Department on the following:

 

  • National Senior Certificate (NCS) exams results of 2020;
  • Feedback on pass rate of Western Cape learners for 2020;
  • Supplementary exams; and
  • School readiness for 2021 given COVID-19 in terms of the following:
  • Status of online and manual applications of learners;
  • Transport system in place for learners;
  • Text books delivered to all schools; and
  • Wellness of learners during COVID-19, particularly matric learners.
